Birmingham, West Midlands, England - 02/22/17

Birmingham is a major city and metropolitan borough of West Midlands, England. It's the most populous and largest city in the UK(outside London), with a population of 101.4 mi. as of 2014 (the city received many immigrants after ww2, although nothing is perfect, the city has the second highest unemployment rate in the UK, after Glasgow).

Birmingham is known for being the first manufacturing town in the world (wiki), it's said that the first industrial steam engine was created in Birmingham. For that status, the city suffered greatly with heavy bombing during the second world war, the bombing lasted 3 years, in what is known as the Birmingham Blitz, targeting weapon and aircraft factories and claiming the lives of or injuring over 8933 people.

For those of you who like open spaces, Birmingham has 571  public parks, more than any other European city, totaling over 3.5 thousand hectares (14 sq miles). Another interesting fact: Bromford Viaduct in Birmingham, is the longest bridge in the United Kingdom with 3.5 miles (5.6 km).

Birmingham also has it's role it the musical world, contributing with bands such as Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Duran Duran, and many others. - Black Sabbaths last show, The End Tour , was this February 4th (2017) in Birmingham.

This is the scope of our journey. We will eventually leave the UK and visit other amazing iconic places! Where do you want to go ? The duration of the trip in the UK is 13 days

Birmingham is our current stop. The second most populated city in England

We had a chance to know England's oldest working cinema, the Electric cinema, built in 1909 and revitalized by an entrepreneur in 2004. Today it has two working rooms, with classical and contemporary films

What a better way to get to know a city than visit it's square ? More so when the place is called the Century Square. it got this name in 1989 in commemoration of Birminghams 100 years as a city. The next places we visit are all around here.

We stop at the Centenary Square to visit the nearby buildings. Firstly we enter Birmingham Repertory Theatre, commonly called The Rep, to cool down and watch a few good quality teatrical plays ( The Rep's Youtube Channel) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Me8v-H2Ha4

Right next to The Rep is Library of Birmingham. This building was built in 2013 replacing Birmingham Central library. It is seen as the largest public library in the United Kingdom, the largest public cultural space in Europe.. A quote from Herbert Manzoni, an Engineer from the 1940s - "As to Birmingham’s buildings, there is little of real worth in our architecture. Its replacement should be an improvement… As for future generations, I think they will be better occupied in applying their thoughts and energies to forging ahead, rather than looking backward"

This is a tour of culture and music! Meet Symphony Hall, a 2.262 seat concert venue opened in 1991 by the queen. We arrive just in time for the Brit Floyd show, tickets are only 33 G.

We stop by Millennium Point, a multi-purposed complex containing Birmingham Science Museum (what we are here for) and also Birmingham School Of Acting and Birmingham City University`s Faculty of Computing, Engineering and The Built Environment. The complex was opened in 2002 by the queen.

Welcome to Thinktank Science Museum, inside the Millennium Point, here we observe our history and inventions through the screen of time, with collections of early Weapons, vehicles and machines, such as: The Spitfire plane, produced here in Birmingham during WW2, Trams and Locomotives, Early models of cars, Steam engines, Industrial machines and Birmingham made objects. A look in our own anatomy in Things About Me, Modern streets and wildlife, and modern medicine in the The Present gallery. As well as a look in the future, in an interactive gallery full of new technology. On the left of the picture is Science Garden, an interactive outdoor space with over 30 exhibits. And lastly we visit Thinktank Planetarium. Opened in 2005, it is UK's first digital planetarium, with 70 seats and a 33ft (10 meters) projection dome.
